This paper examines five historical events and trends that proved to be turning points in history of nursing research. For much of the first 50 years of the twentieth century, researcher concentrated on training nurse and efficient manpower utilization. Beginning in the 1950s, however, the emphasis shifted to more scientific and clinical inquiry.
