In Search of his American Dream: The Personal Memoir of James Carroll
This paper is about novelist James Carroll's somewhat self-absorbed autobiography detailing the schism that developed between himself and his father as a result of the Vietnam War. The paper also reflects upon Carroll's harsh assessment of the post-war Catholic Church he grew up in. All in all, the paper suggests that while Carroll is unfailing in pointing out his father's vices and shortcomings, the solipsistic nature of his work reveals many of his own.
