The following paper will evaluate a longstanding argument regarding the ability of elderly drivers to continue operating a motor vehicle when their abilities have declined. This argument is complicated, as some provisions should be in place to routinely evaluate these drivers, while at the same time, it is necessary to enable elderly persons to achieve a sense of independence for as long as possible.
